Cherry Forest Chocolatey Nutella-y Cakiness without Egg!
Tuesday, 24 April 2012
In case you havent noticed I love baking! Its my favourite thing to do when I have some free time and I find the whole process of measuring out the ingredients, whisking & mixing and waiting for them to rise so therapeutic. This week me and my friend were at her place and abit bored so as her flat is a egg-free area we tried out this eggless Cherry Forrest Chocolate Cake with Nutella Buttercream. (sorry for the quality of pics, I only had my phone camera with me).
INGREDIENTS
Cake:
2 cup plain flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
1 can (400 grams for full can) condensed milk
1 cup melted butter
2 teaspoon vanilla essence
Nutella butter cream & toppings:
1 cup Nutella
1/2 cup butter
1 icing sugar
1 tsp milk
2 tubs whipping cream
I carton of Morello cherry fruit filling
METHOD
For the cake:
1. Sift the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and bicarbonate soda.2. Combine all the remaining ingredients with the dry ingredients together with 1 cup (200 ml.) of water in a bowl and mix well using a whisk.
3. Divide into two and pour this mixture into two greased 150 mm. (6") diameter baking tins.
4. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C (360°F) for 20 minutes or until a knife inserted into the cake comes out clean.
5. Unmould and cool on a wire rack
For the Nutella Buttercream and cream:
1.Beat the butter until smooth, then add the Nutella and beat until all combined. Slowly mix in the icing sugar and milk until combined.
2. Whisk the whipping cream until is forms stiff peaks or until is reaches your desired consistency. I put the cream in a piping bag swirted on top and around the sides
Then assemble your cake like so...
Et voilà!

Cherry Batiste Dry Shampoo
Saturday, 7 April 2012
Batiste have done it again!
I first heard about this product about two months ago and wanted to get my hands on some immediately! I searched in every single Boots, Superdrug and supermarket I came across (my home town, Coventry, Leicester, Stratford-Upon-Avon, London and more) all the while I kept seeing more and reviews cropping up on blogs everywhere driving me insane with lust (ok slight exaggeration but I was getting annoyed I couldn't find it) I even enlisted my best friend to help me with my search and had show to her the reviews because after a while she was starting to believe it didn't exist. Finally....about 2 wks ago I saw it there sitting pretty on a shelf in Coventry's Boots...I felt like I had found the holy grail! lol I was soo happy and couldnt stop grinning the whole day... literally!
It was all worth it...this is definitely my favourite out of all the Batiste varieties and not just because its cherry (well maybe lol)! It gives my hair the same fresh and clean feeling as the others but I just LOVE the fragrance of this one! Being the cherry fanatic that I am it doesn't have than intense cherry scent but it does have a subtle sweet scent which is reeeally lovely and just the perfect balance of freshness and sweet femininity.
LOVE the cherry print...isn't it so cute!! |
Cherry Batiste retails at £2.99 for a 200ml can and is available in Boots.

Soap & Glory Choc/Cherry Lip Balm!! A Great Kisser!
Sunday, 26 February 2012
Hi everyone! I finally have my laptop up and running again! yay! I'm so happy that to do a review of this gorgeous new lip balm I have discovered!
'A Great Kisser' by Soap & Glory is a new range of three fruity lip balms - Juicy Peach, Sweet Coconut and Chocolate Cherry respectively as picture below.
These lip balms contain 'mango butter to moisturise, apricot butter for weather protection, lingonberry oil to boost the barrier repair (and prevent water loss), and pomegranate extract to renew your 'dewy''.
'Juicy Peach is a gorgeous coral shade, Sweet Coconut is clear in colour with a hint of shimmer and Chocolate Cherry is described as a sheer popsicle pink'
I'm sure you can guess which one I went for..yep the Choc Cherry! I gotta say I just love all Soap and Glory packaging...its so fun and retro! And this lipbalm is no different..its so cute! One great thing I noticed about the tin is that its very easy to open and slides off great unlike the similar Vaseline tubs which can get quite tight and be a nightmare to prise open.
When I first opened it I thought it looked quite bright in the pan but in fact its quite sheer on the lips giving a nice hint of colour and a glossy/dewy finish.
The texture of this product is absolutely gorgeous!! It looks a little heavy in the pan but once you circle your finger around it melts and applies on your lips very easily. It really is unlike any other product I've used and feels so luxurious! S&G describe it better than I ever could...'its not too waxy, not too slippery, not too greasy, not too sticky. In fact, its just right'. And I completely agree!! It feels extremely moisturising, provides a protective barrier between my skin and the elements which is particularly important in these harsh winter months but at the same time its not too thick, its not too sticky (dont you just hate when the wind blows your hair and gets stuck on your lipgloss eek) and feels so lovely and soft.
The scent actually isn't as I imagined...maybe I have been spoilt by the gorgeous rich fragrance of the TBS Chocomania but the choc/cherry scent of this lipbalm was more like a very subtle cherry chocolate liqueur which personally I'm not too keen on.
Overall, this product is a winner!! Although the scent is quite disappointing it is very subtle and the performance of the lipbalm formula itsself far outweighs this one negative. 'A Great Kisser' leaves my lips feeling extremely soft, moisturised and nourished with a nice glossy finish and indeed very kissable!
Would I buy this product again? Yes definitely I would but I would go for the Juicy Peach flavour.
This product retails at £5 for a 18g tin. Available from Boots.

Rochester Cherry Competition Victory!!
Wednesday, 8 February 2012
Brrrr....its absolutely freezing here in the UK! Literally! My laptop weather gadget is telling me its -5 outside!! Ouch!!
This cold weather makes me looks forward to the spring and think about past summers...a couple of years ago my friend Rachel from House of Pinheiro invited me to spend the weekend with her in Rochester and it just so happened that the city was holding its annual summer pinic and were hosting a charity Cherry dessert competition!! Even back then when we didnt know eachother that well Rach knew about my love of cherries and of course we had to enter!! The only rule of the competition was that they needed to use fresh local Kent grown cherries...I made a Cherry Clafoutis and Rach made a fanastic Brazilian dessert. We were so excited about the weekend that we even sewed our own fun cherry aprons especially for the occasion!! We were rushing to make them the morning of the picnic and didn't quite finish them on time...
It was a wonderful day! The sun was shining! Lots of people and stalls and some extremely good contenders for the dessert competition!
The big oval one is Rachel's Brazilian masterpiece |

Hi everyone!! Love is in the air as Valentines Day fast approaches! Or maybe not for us singleton's out there who, if you are anything like me, keep seeing all these cute romantic heart shaped things everywhere and thinking 'oh I wish I had a boyfriend (or gf if you prefer) to buy me this adorable Me2You card'...I mean how cute are these!!
Instead I turn my attention to the shops!! This year just in time for Valentine's Day L'Occitane is releasing a limited edition 'Cherry Princess' range. L'Occitane say 'The juicy scents of red cherries blended with delicate floral softness, reminiscent of the graceful beauty of a princess'.
Top notes of Cherry Princess offer lemon, grapefruit and sweet cherry notes.
The heart gives us spring floral accords.
Base notes combine a blend of musk and precious wood.
The range includes:
Cherry Princess Hand Cream - £7.50
Cherry Princess Silky Body Gel - £18.00
Cherry Princess Eau de Toilette (50ml) - £29.00
Cherry Princess Pearlescent Shower Cream - £13.00

I love the simple yet delicate packaging of this range just like all L'Occitane products. And of course being a diehard cherry lover I just cant wait to try this out but also I need to wait until 8th Feb when this will hit UK stores (ok I know its not that long but what can I say I can be impatient at times lol)!
Have you had the chance to try this out? What do you think?
